The Ecrins National Park

It’s a long story! After the short lived creation of the Berarde National Park in 1913, it took until 1973 before the Ecrins National Park was officially opened. This was after much lobbying from alpinists, environmentalists and the Club Alpin Francais.

The Park is organised into sectors and each sector has it’s own team who organise events and manage this vast territory. The park buildings are open to welcome visitors throughout the year and provide information on the management and work going on in each sector and the possibility to meet one of the local park wardens.

The geographic sectors cover two departments; the Hates Alpes and the Isère and two regions; Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur and Rhône-Alpes.

The Ecrins National Park is one of the nine French national parks along with the Vanoise, Port-Cros, the Pyrénées, the Cévennes, le Mercantour, the Guadeloupe, the Réunion and Guyana
